![]() A lot more is at stake and the victories feel hard-earned. You feel the sudden weight of responsibility as our hero takes the inevitable step up to a leadership role. His prose is excellent, and I can really appreciate the amount of work that went into this. I usually come to CYOA games for the simple, linear nature of the format, but Kyle does a helluva job with it. Almost all characters feels like a wooden board, lack of personality really hurts the story, you can’t expect readers to care for the characters if all they read about is how annoyed they are to you, there’s no agency to these characters at all and it hurts the plot as a whole.Īmazing stuff. My only gripe is just how boring it is, a book with nymph, troll and satyr have no right to be this boring. Though it’s hard to follow, this is still a decent sequel to the first book. It could occasionally be difficult to guess what stats and/or personality traits would be tested/altered, but that’s part of the game, and it didn’t matter much to fail stuff here and there. The author Kyle Marquis is one of the best to publish with CoG in my opinion. ![]() The story and the characters driving it remain engrossing. Just like the first, an epic adventure with several approaches to building a character, tons of exquisite description, and plenty of stat checks leading to awesome feats. ![]() Excellent replayability and the stats work perfectly. This is still one of the better choice stories. There are so many characters that it can be hard to keep up with all of them and the narrative dragged at certain points in the story. This author is a master at world-building and the writing is excellent. The first book was more of a traditional heroes journey whereas this one was much more focused on political and regional interactions. ![]() Unleash new companions and train them in alchemy, infiltration, diplomacy, or the arts of warĮxplore ancient cities, savage wastelands, and the glittering, deadly palace of the Desert Empressįind friendship, romance, or rivalry with nymphs and satyrs, thieves and monarchs, dark warriors or holy sagesīring peace to warring nations-or drive them to destruction for your own endsįorge an army strong enough to stop Magdala, the Unconquerable Scorpion Play as male, female, or nonbinary gay, straight, bi, or aceĭefeat enemies with sword and spell, or make allies with diplomacy, deception, and the miracles of your god What can stop a creature forged by the gods to be unstoppable?
